U’teshuvah, u’tefillah, u’tzedakah…

On the Yamim Nora’im we say U’teshuvah, u’tefillah, u’tzedakah ma’avirin et roa hagezeira : roughly, “atonement, prayer, and righteous giving will annul the evil decree” and bring us a year of blessings. I’m collecting some Hasidic teachings from throughout the year on these three profound concepts, tefillah, teshuvah, and tzedakah, as well as adding new ones. Keep checking in throughout the holidays for updates. L’shanah tovah umetukah and gmar tov.

On teshuvah:

The Meor Einayim on instant atonement.

Rebbe Zusya of Hanipol on returning.

The Ohev Yisroel on having faith that we’ll all get there.

On tefillah:

The Noam Elimelech on what happens when we pray.

The Ohev Yisroel on connecting through prayer.

The Kozhnitzer Maggid on ascending in prayer

The Sfas Emes on what to do with all those pesky thoughts while you pray.

The Kedushas Levi on “convincing” G!d and on the words we use when we talk about G!d.

The Baal Shem Tov on G!d being the author of everything.

On tzedakah:

Yismach Lev on who’s giving.
